This is a comprehensive text of interventional pain management that includes practical tips along with theoretical concepts. It covers many of the subjects taught in the Interventional Pain Management Meetings sponsored by the Danne Miller Memorial Educational Foundation. Drs. Steven Waldman and Alan Winnie sought to provide a unified text of interventional pain management techniques with a focus on practical issues. As such, it is an excellent clinically oriented reference for the pain management specialist. The editors are acknowledged authorities in their field. Contributors include many well-published algologists. Most of the chapters in this book are comprehensive reviews of the current uses of pain management techniques. Other chapters included step-by-step approaches to novel and innovative techniques at the frontier of pain management research. The book has an abundance of illustrations, black-and-white images, and a color plates section with fascinating pictures of important clinical points. The table of contents and index are well organized. References are found in abundance, although many of them are dated. The book is well organized, with a two-column approach to page styling. The margins are too small for note taking, which may be an important issue in a clinically oriented book like this one. This is a clearly written and well-edited book of clinical pearls and how-to concepts used in interventional pain management. Several of the chapters describe novel techniques and are the first comprehensive treatment of these subjects to appear in a single textbook. The concise step-by-step approach to many pain management procedures along with the scope of discussion onmultiple pain topics make this an important clinically oriented reference for the pain management specialist and a useful addition to any medical library.
